1967 FORD MUSTANG GTA FASTBACK ‘S’ CODE LHD

The 1967/68 Ford Mustang GT390 Code S is regarded as one of the most desirable of all Mustangs thanks to two important factors. Firstly, the 1967 model year saw the introduction of the big-block 390ci V8 engine – that’s 6.4 litres in European speak – while in 1968, Steve McQueen showed exactly what a 320bhp GT390 Fastback was capable of against a Dodge Charger in the 1968 movie Bullitt. Which turned the car into an absolute Hollywood star. 

As a variant equipped with an automatic transmission, the official designation for this Vintage Burgundy example is GTA, but it features all the GT equipment save for the manual gearbox. The 6381cc V8-powered car was built in December 1966 and came to the UK in 1989, being registered here in October of that year. The odometer shows 35,530 miles. As an historic vehicle, the Mustang no longer requires an MoT; its last expired in June 2008 after having been tested the previous year at 34,667 miles. The vendor has owned the car for 17 years and reports that it runs well, but reports that the radio and heater are temperamental. He also tells us that much work was done over 2018 and 2019 including an engine and gearbox rebuild and a repaint. For the engine there was a pair of new heads, pistons, rods, oil pump, inlet manifold, carburettor, water pump, fuel pump and timing chain etc. The bare metal repaint was done by Phil King of American Restorations in Waltham Abbey, Essex, who also did the engine rebuild. New parts listed as being fitted include new discs, calipers, master cylinder, hoses, fuel tank, battery, radiator, exhaust, polyurethane suspension bushes, carpet, tyres etc. Most recently, it's had an oil service.

Documentation includes the V5C, a Marti report listing build details, and a selection of bills mainly relating to the restoration. plus MoT certificates from 2005, 2006 and 2007. The car comes with some spare parts including new headlamps, carburettor etc.
