This luxury Vanden Plas wood-and-leather version of the Austin Allegro has been featured as a project car in Classics Monthly magazine from April to November 2023 and was driven to the auction. Originally a 1748cc E-series-engined car, it has recently been re-engined with a 1485cc unit; this will need updating with the DVLA as the V5C still notes it as a 1.7-litre car. The vendor has the original 1.7-litre engine, which is available free to the buyer. The car is described as running well, albeit with a slight oil leak. It received a full body restoration during the 1990s while recent work has included a brake overhaul, new tyres and new headlining. The vendor describes it as a totally solid car but the paint is micro-blistered all over.

The car was registered in August 1980 and is now showing 61,463 miles on its odometer. It has an MoT through to October 2024 although, as an historic vehicle, it no longer requires annual testing.  Paperwork accompanying the Vanden Plas includes the V5C, owner's handbook, a large stack of invoices dating back to the 1990s, old letters, club literature, and copies of magazine road tests and features.
