1968 YAMAHA YM1 305CC

The Yamaha YM1 was the flagship of the marque's sports bikes in the 1960s, with twin carburettors, a five-speed gearbox and its 305cc two-cylinder air-cooled engine being the largest two-stroke of its kind in the world at the time. It was the first Yamaha twin to feature Autolube automatic lubrication driven by a gearbox pump. Only having been made for a short period during the 1960s, the bike is now rare and collectable. Declared built in 1968, according to the V5C, this YM1 was registered in the UK in June 2009 and the vendor tells us it has been restored, although the only invoices in the history folder date from around 2007 to 2009 and relate to engine work, albeit with a bill for a tyre from 2011. The history folder also includes the V5C, an MoT certificate from 2009, and a Japanese Bike Guide copy of a Yamaha buyer's guide from 2018. The odometer shows 9194 miles, although this isn't warranted. There's no current MoT - as an historic bike, the Yamaha no longer requires annual testing; its last expired in September 2010, having been tested the previous year at an indicated two miles. It may well be that the speedometer was replaced if the bike was restored around this time; there is an old speedometer (and cable) that comes with the bike that indicates 8165 miles on its odometer. Also included workshop manual, spare set of keys, black and silver rear numberplate and some bulbs.
