Small-scale specialist manufacturer Fairthorpe, founded by an Air Vice Marshall, launched its open two-seater Electron in 1956, fitted with a 1098cc overhead-cam Coventry Climax engine. It was followed in 1957 by the Electron Minor, a cheaper version with the 948cc engine, transmission and rear axle from the Standard Ten. This example, registered in July 1960, has had just two previous owners from new and the vendor believes it to be an ‘original, unmolested car’ with rare factory hard-top and sliding sidescreens, having been stored from the early 1970s through to 2018. He reports that much recommissioning work has been completed, such as new brake lines, fuel lines, suspension overhaul etc. The car has a Shorrock supercharger fitted, which the vendor says turns freely. The engine has been run on twin SU carburettors. The glassfibre-shelled car now requires finishing for road or track use, or a more extensive restoration. It comes with its present and past V5Cs and a large and fascinating history file that includes an original brochure, the invoice for the Shorrock supercharger installation in 1961 plus documentation relating to the device. There's also a copy of Car Mechanics magazine from November 1964, a 1960 newspaper piece on the Fairthorpe, other miscellaneous paperwork and a hefty amount of invoices from 1960 onwards through to the present day, including a bill for four new tyres in March 2018. The chassis plate is included amongst the paperwork. The mileage indicated on the odometer is 27,118.
