1978 YAMAHA RD250E

Registered in November 1978, the vendor describes this Yamaha RD250E as a project bike that is now 90 per cent complete. The vendor tells us that everything has been cleaned before being assembled, with some items repainted and polished. As the wiring loom isn't currently on the bike, it cannot currently be started. The cables, throttle, speedometer, rev counter and clutch are boxed up and need to be fitted. The frame is intact, with no visible rust and period Avon tyres are on. The seat has been restored and fitted with a brand new correct seat cover and strap. As the Yamaha is a project, it is currently a ‘dry bike’ - ie, contains no fluids. The mileage indicated on the odometer is 13,632 miles. We're told that the engine barrels are only on their first rebore (0.25) and  look in good condition with clean pistons. However, the vendor recommends a full engine rebuild with new bearings and seals at the minimum. Items that still need to be sourced include the rear wheel spacer, seat side strips, seat rubbers, seat catch and lock and one of the exhaust clamps to the cylinder head, which is from an earlier model. Also required are a carb to airbox rubber fork ear plus chrome and rubber mounts. The history file includes a V5C, RD520 brochure and a Haynes workshop manual.
